Explanation of phylogenetic trees

Of the Ferungulata, the sister clade of the Ferae is most likely  Perissodactyla.  If this taxon (Ferae + Perissodactyla) is found to be a monophyletic clade it will be called Zooamata.  Some authors place Chiroptera as the outgroup of Ferungulata, while others make Chiroptera a sister clade to Zooamata in a group that is called Pegasoferae and is itself a sister clade to Cerartiodactyla.  The latter hypothesis would make Cerartiodactyla the outgroup of Ferungulata.

Descendant Phylogeny and Taxonomy

Ferae "†Cimolesta"
Pholidota
Creodonta
Carnivora

Explanation of phylogenetic trees

The exact relationships of the clades within Ferae are uncertain.  The extinct Cimolesta is very likely a paraphyletic stem group as it may contain ancestors of the other three groups.
