Explanation of phylogenetic trees
Traditionally, this order contains one family, Salmonidae, divided into three subfamilies by Nelson (2006): Coregoninae, Thymallinae, and Salmoninae, with the latter two constituting a monophyletic group. Some authors have proposed to have two families within Salmoniformes: Coregonidae and Salmonidae, with the latter having two subfamilies of Thymallinae and Salmoninae.
